Colson Industries Ltd was formed in 1995 by Colin Smith-Moorhouse after he sold his shares at the engineering company he’d been with since 1977. The initial valve range was designed and developed during the period up to July 1996 when it was launched to the market. Their product offering continues to develop in size and range to this day.

The experienced staff, many of whom have been with Colson from its inception, now provide over 200 Years’ experience in the manufacture of valves and other related products. The talented and knowledgeable workforce offer innovative solutions to a whole host of customer needs with accurate, timely quotations through to the manufacture of excellent quality products delivered on time.

In October 2002 the Company acquired its current home of 35,000 sq. ft. in Elland West Yorkshire very close to Junction 24 of the M62 motorway and only 45 minutes’ drive from the two international airports of Leeds and Manchester.

May 2014 saw Colson Industries being bought by X-Cel Superturn Group who are a Sheffield based manufacturer of parts for the Subsea, Drilling and surface OEM’s within the Oil and Gas sector. Having global and regional contracts from major blue chip clients such as FMC, GE Oil and Gas, Dril-Quip, NOV and Cameron the Group turnover is over £27 million. X-Cel Superturn have over 50 state of the art CNC machines capable of machining parts which are up to 10,000mm long, 7 tonnes in weight and a diameter up 2,000mm. They have also gained valuable experience machining parts for many of the UK valve manufacturers.

Here at Colson X-Cel Ltd, we pride ourselves on being a true engineering company by manufacturing of all our major components in-houe. In utilising the 21 on-site CNC machines we gain total production control and flexibility in our manufacturing operation. With our new CNC CMM we can measure all critical dimensions accurately and ensure that assembly is carried out quickly. This also ensures that parts are dimensionally accurate and testing rarely produces failures. Larger projects can be accommodated by using in-group access to the additional 50 CNC machines. If it’s not machined in-house it will be machined within the group.

Colson manufactures all its products in accordance with QMS ISO 9001-2015 and they are CE marked for Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23. We have a worldwide network of distributors who work with us to service the local client’s needs and we believe in supporting those agents and representatives as best we can.
