In the development of the Russian metallurgical industry of the eighteenth century, the role of Tula gunsmiths, who were the founders of many factories in the European part of Russia and the Urals, is great. These are the dynasties of the Demidovs, Batashovs, Mosolovs and a number of other smaller industrialists. Throughout the 18th century, the Demidovs, Batashovs, and Mosolovs founded and acquired 87 plants, of which 50 were retained by the end of the 19th century. The first metallurgical plants in the European part of Russia were built on the banks of the rivers, since not a single operation related to the production of pig iron, iron and processing of products was completed without the participation of water as a motive force. Water set in motion the mill wheels, from which the forges and blast furnaces worked, huge hammers descended and rose, and drills and grinders were set in motion.
